THE JERSEY SHORE BOARDWALK AMUSEMENT SERIES !

As kids growing up in New Jersey, Maria & I enjoyed summers on the Jersey Shore.  From the bayside boardwalk in Keansburg , to the former Palace Amusements in Asbury Park, to America's Playground & the Steel Pier In Atlantic City, to Hunt's Pier in Wildwood it was summer at it's best. The is right, Jersey has the best boardwalks in the world (Sorry California and Maryland).  Even Forbes Magazine thinks so too with 5 of the 10 boardwalk in the worlds (Click Here To See Forbes Top 10 Boardwalks) are right here in the Garden State.

The smell of the salt air, the creosote soaked wood of the boardwalk, the sounds of thrill rides, games of chance and fun fill the air. All the neon, chase and flashing lights. The is fun for all ages. Even recording artist sung about the life on the boardwalk.  Bobby Rydell sang about "Wildwood Days" back in the 1960's and of course Bruce Springsteen with 4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) in the 1970's. Over the years the boardwalks have changed do to many reasons. Keansburg, Pt. Pleasant, Seaside Heights, Ocean City & The Wildwoods boardwalk areas have remained closely to the same just as time goes on, change in ownership and attractions.. Towns like Asbury Park (Which I have a fondness in my heart for) fell on hard social, economic & political times since 1970. Long Branch's Haunted Mansion pier sustained damage from hurricane Gloria in 1985 and total destruction in 1988 with a massive fire.  The face of Atlantic City changed forever when in 1976 NJ voters approved casino gambling and on May 27, 1978 at 10AM, AC's first casino Resorts International opened it's doors and Atlantic City would never be the same again.

A real NJ boardwalk experience is something for the young and old to enjoy and cherish to memories of. First is the food. As soon as you hit the boards the smell fills the air. No Burger King or Taco Bell here (Seaside tried it but it didn't survive). Try a sausage-peppers & onions sandwich, cheese steaks that are huge,14" hot dogs, 1/2 lbs. burgers clams on the 1/2 shell, corn on the cob,  fresh cut fries. For fun foods, funnel cakes, sno-cones, homemade chocolate, real fresh popcorn, cotton candy and of course the candy that made the Jersey Shore famous SALT WATER TAFFY !

Certain boardwalk towns had a food stand that was unique to the area itself.  Wildwood had the Taylor Pork Roll stand (Taylor Ham is a Northeast USA one of a kind!).  Atlantic City had the Planter's Peanut Store & Strawberry Shortcakes. Seaside Height's has 3 Brothers From Italy Pizza (The Original), Seaside Steak House, The Midway & JR's.  Pt. Pleasant has Martell's Clam Bar, Asbury Park had Ducky's Hotdogs and the famous Howard Johnson's in the unique Art-Deco building. Long Branch with Max's and The Windmill hotdogs.  But one thing they all had and have is Kohr's Frozen Custard & Orangeade.  Cool and refreshing, Kohr's orangeade is a taste on every NJ boardwalk since 1919 and it wouldn't be a day and night on the boardwalk without one. They are on every major boardwalk in NJ and some of the smaller non-amusement boards too. This is one taste of New Jersey's boardwalks that can't be passed up.  And on a hot summer day or night, it is the most refreshing and tasty too !

Well I can go on and on but we want to tell you more on this project. For more of a look into NJ's rich boardwalk and amusement park history , click the tramcar below.  For more on the M&M's boardwalk series of O scale buildings and accessories, read on .....................................
