DK'S LAYOUT PG 3

Page 2 - Wildwood Harbor

Don's Wildwood Harbor area on his massive layout is based loosely on the Wildwoods in New Jersey.  The Wildwoods (North Wildwood, Wildwood and Wildwood Crest) are seashore towns in South Jersey just NNE of Cape May Point, NJ noted for its great boardwalk and amusement piers and it's "Doo-Wop" style motels. For railroad fans, this area was once served by the Pennsylvania - Reading Seashore Lines (PRSL)

So enjoy the pictures that Don sent us of this district on his layout featuring our Wildwood Billboard Series soon to be available here on MMBSS !

Thank you once again Don for sharing them with us :)

A great shot looking at the waterfront scene.  Lots of great detail here right down to the "babes" in the bikinis !  Above the Lionel Aquarium are two billboards from our Wildwood series.  One the left is the one for the boardwalk Howard Johnson Restaurant and the one on the right is the one for Hunt's Pier (We use to love that place !)

It wouldn't be a Jersey Shore boardwalk scene without a Haunted House, Miniature Golf and Salt Water Taffy.  Don took care of that with great style !  Right down to the Pirate Ship that reminds me of the Pirate Ship Skua that use to be one Hunt's Pier from 1962 until it was razed in 1989 (All good things always come to an end :(  ).  We love all the seagulls he has in the area.  On top of the Salt Water Taffy Shoppe is our Midway Pier all wood lighted billboard and just behind the haunted house is our Caprice Motel billboard.

Here is another shot from a different view of the haunted house and pirate ship. It also includes a closer look at the light Caprice Motel lighted billboard.  Maria and I love the Tilt-A-Whirl ride on the top right of the photo right near the Ferris Wheel.

A full view of the Wildwood Harbor scene showing the full magnitude of this area of the layout.  Complete with boardwalk shops, amusements and rides.  Reminds me as a 7 year old kid back in 1971 going to Wildwood for the first time.  Looking at this photo you can smell the salt air, hot roasted peanuts and Mack's Pizza !

A beautiful night scene at Wildwood Harbor.  All lit up like a boardwalk promenade should be !  All signs, structures and amusement rise like an aurora filled with fun.  Don really did his homework here to even include a monorail (pictured in the top left corner of the photo) just like they use to have on the Fun Pier in Wildwood back in the 1960's 'til sometime in the 1970's.  This whole series of photos really brought a huge smile to my face and a lot of memories I will always treasure !

I like to thank Don again for sharing these photos of the Wildwood Harbor District of his huge O Scale Empire.  Yes fans, he has promised more photos of other areas of his layout as soon as he can !
