Hitomi has been kind enough to share some exclusive photos of his HO Scale New York Central System not seen in his March 2008 cover story in Model Railroader Magazine. If you haven't seen the March 2008 issue of Model Railroader, I suggest you pick up a copy from there back issue sales by clicking the cover of the issue below. He wrote a great article on making realistic tall grass from fake fur on page 60 of the issue. The photos below feature a few of our structures we made for Hitomi's layout empire. We made many more but they are on a still under construction Manhattan area of the layout. They even include the very first building we done for him. As construction continues, we hope to receive more photos of his layout. Thank you once again Hitomi for sharing these fine photos of your outstanding layout. We are happy here that we are even a small part of it with some of our buildings. Your layout brings many great memories for me going down to Ridgefield Park, NJ along the Central's West Shore Line where it ran parallel with the NYS&W and watching their cab units and early era SD's crossing the Overpeck Creek Drawbridge Running either north to Albany & Schenectady or south to Weehawken.
Above is a Pep Boys Auto parts we made for Hitomi's layout. It is a kitbashed Heljan Woolworth's kit. Everyone knows Pep Boys now as a big "BOX TYPE" store now but years ago they were a storefront auto parts chain. I can even remember into the very early 1970's one like that in Passaic, NJ. This one is based on one that was in another Jersey town. It is lighted and features a full interior, custom made decals and a double sided rooftop sign trestle. I love the black 70 Chevelle in the background to the right. My best friend had 3 just like that ( Two with a 396 and one with a 454 ).
Here we have our version of a Banker's Corner Block. It is a kitbashed Walthers Worthington Hotel. We made the 2 stores into a Wachovia Bank and a US Post Office. The banks interior features a vault, manager's desk, teller's windows with "Bulletproof" glass. The Post Office has a service desk, Post Office Boxes, customers desk and a postmaster. Upstairs are offices for a Insurance Agency and a Brokerage. It is also lighted and has custom decals and graphics for it. We remember this is the first structure that Hitomi purchased from us and thanks to this one, stated a great friendship.
A walking view of the Main Street scene. Beautiful trees, nicely details structures and super realistic looking autos and trucks bring this scene to life. The town resembles most towns and villages along the Hudson . I love the Chevy Pick-up in the foreground right.
Another view of Main Street with our Banker's Block along with other numerous Walthers and DPM structure kits. The detail to the road pavement is beautiful. With the fine details of manholes and storm drains really makes it stand out. I love Hitomi's little humor in the scene with the Pete's Painting truck with pete who has fallen off the ladder and is lying in the street. Thank you again Hitomi for sharing these exclusive photographs with us for all to see. It really brings back great memories of the NYC for us here and for our website visitors. And I know we have a lot of Central fans out there in all scales. |
